Dr. Powell is a board certified surgeon specializing in the treatment of foot and ankle pathology. He enjoys the challenge of diagnosing and treating foot and ankle injuries including sprains, fractures, and ruptures. He also specializes in the treatment of congenital and acquired conditions such as flat feet, heel pain, hammer toes, and bunions. He is trained to treat problems both surgically and non-surgically and is able to recommend multiple options for the best outcome. When deciding how to treat a problem there are many variables to consider and Dr Powell is sensitive to the needs of his patients.
Dr. Powell attended medical school at California College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco where he received the Earl G. Kaplan award for academic and clinical excellence and the Pierce B. Nelson award from his classmates for dedication and integrity. After medical school, Dr. Powell completed three years of foot and ankle surgical training at the University of Utah and Veterans Administration hospitals in Salt Lake City. In his third year in Salt Lake he served as the chief resident.
Staying current on the latest surgical techniques and advances in medicine are important to Dr. Powell. He attends surgical and medical seminars regularly and has taken advanced courses in ankle arthroscopy, advances in tendon repair and reconstructive foot surgery. The Foot and Ankle Institute provides cutting edge diagnostic and treatment equipment and facilities with in house MRI, digital x-ray, ultrasound, surgical center and digital orthotic scanning.
Dr. Powell was born and raised in Price, Utah where his parents were both educators. He is married and has three children. Dr. Powell received a Bachelors of Music degree in vocal performance from Brigham Young University.
Dr. Powell enjoys keeping his musical skills current. He has performed locally with The Southwest Chorale, Lieto Choir, and St. George Musical Theatre. He is currently in a music ensemble called Pipes Plus. Besides singing, Dr. Powell enjoys being with his family, playing basketball, hiking, and snow skiing. He is a Scoutmaster for a local Boy Scout troop and enjoys volunteering his time with the scouts. |

Dr. Keith Reber organized the Foot and Ankle Institute in 1981. Over the last 28 years the practice has grown from one office to the largest and most comprehensive podiatry practice in the state of Utah with four offices, seven doctors, and in office MRI, fluoroscope, digital x-rays, ultrasound, product center, and surgery center.
Dr. Reber completed his residency training in Albuquerque, New Mexico after his medical schooling at the California College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco, California.
Dr. Reber enjoys volunteering his time and skills for medical missions all over the world. He has travelled to Bangladesh, Brazil, and Mexico helping to assist under-privileged communities with common foot problems and care.
Dr. Reber is married with 5 children. He enjoys following his youngest son’s sports teams with his wife, spending time with his children and grandchildren, and getting out to go fishing or spend time in the mountains. |

Dr. Leon Reber joined the Foot and Ankle Institute in 2006 and is a specialist in foot and ankle trauma and reconstructive surgery.
Dr. Reber completed his residency training in Seattle, Washington. During that time he received extensive training in foot and ankle reconstruction and trauma surgery. He was fortunate to spend a portion of his residency training at one of the top Level 1 Trauma Centers in the country, Harborview Medical Center. He had the opportunity to learn from several experts in the field of foot and ankle surgery, including Sigvard T. Hansen, and was exposed to a wide range of forefoot, rearfoot, and ankle trauma. In addition, he spent one month in Dresden, Germany learning foot and ankle trauma from one of the most respected Traumatologists in Europe, Professor Hans Zwipp.
Dr. Reber has published a number of papers in peer-reviewed medical journals on the biomechanics of the foot and has received awards for his research. He lectures locally and nationally on various topics related to foot and ankle surgery.
Dr. Reber is married with 4 children. He enjoys traveling with his wife, spending time with his friends and family, and playing sports with his boys.

Dr. Carl Van Gils is a board certified foot surgeon who has been practicing in St. George since 1999. He is a Certified Wound Specialist and is the current medical director of the Wound Clinic at Dixie Regional Medical Center.
Dr. Van Gils trained at the Carl T. Hayden VA Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. While there he helped publish the results of the “Desert Foot” experience, one of the first nationally recognized multidisciplinary programs dedicated to limb salvage in the diabetic population. Since then he has published in many peer reviewed journals and is a frequent local and international speaker on the diabetic foot.
In addition to diabetic foot complications, Dr. Van Gils also has a strong interest in neuropathy. He has been trained by Dr. Lee A. Dellon of the Johns Hopkins hospital on the surgical decompression of peripheral neuropathies in the lower extremity. He also is committed to the non-surgical treatment of this painful syndrome.
Dr. Van Gils’ other professional interest is in sports medicine. This is, in part, due to his own personal commitment to exercise and physical health. He is an avid runner and cyclist and has participated in triathlon racing for the last 4 years. He is looking forward to his first full Ironman in St. George 2010.
Dr. Van Gils is married to Kimberly and has four children: Marcus, Christian, Matthew, and Camile. He loves to spend time with his family and to play with his kids. Together, they enjoy camping, soccer, movies, and being outdoors.

Dr. Webb grew up in Cottonwood Heights, Utah. He is excited to be a part of the Cedar City community. Dr. Webb is an active member of the Cedar City chapter of the International Rotary Club. Dr. Webb’s areas of specialty in Podiatric Medicine are forefoot surgery, hindfoot and ankle surgery, diabetic limb salvage and external fixation for the correction of foot and ankle deformities. Dr. Webb is married with two daughters and has another child on the way. Doctor Webb enjoys spending his free time with his family. He is an avid cyclist, snowboarder, and hiker. |
